About David

David Garrett, an active member of the community, is a passionate advocate for community engagement. A 2006 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Garrett began his career at Boeing, where he currently works as a structural design engineer on the 777-8 Freighter program.

Garrett joined Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) upon hiring, but it was a temporary lapse in email communications that pushed him to become actively involved in union leadership. That moment led to a long trajectory of service—including time as Area Rep, Council Rep, Northwest Vice President, and participation in key committees such as Tellers, Legislative & Public Affairs, and Organizational Planning. At SPEEA, David represents thousands of engineers, technical workers, and professionals in aerospace.

Garrett is widely respected for his active presence, both on the job and in our community. He has stood in solidarity supporting fellow labor organizations such as the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in strikes with boots-on-the-ground support and essential supplies.

He believes Marysville, like SPEEA, is a family — bound together by shared values and the belief that “we are stronger when we stand together.”

David is also a strong advocate for legislative change, representing SPEEA in Washington, D.C. and the labor community at large in Olympia, Washington, where he works to advance laws that protect and empower workers.

Outside of work, Garrett is deeply committed to service. He has supported Toys for Tots, Point Defiance Beach Cleanup, and NW Harvest to sort quality food that would be sent to food banks all over the state. His pastimes and hobbies embody ideals of unity, cooperation, and vision. He is also a volunteer for Norwescon and Penny Arcade Expo. For Garrett, community and labor go hand in hand—each one made stronger by collective action and care.

He is endorsed by Snohomish County Sheriff Susanna Johnson, and Snohomish County Council Member Megan Dunn as well as many others.

David and his wife live in Marysville with their daughter, who is active in Scouting and pursues competitive dance.
