Issues
Affordability
Families are struggling more than ever as prices and housing costs soar, forcing households to reduce spending, leading to fewer profits for businesses and a vicious cycle of cuts that lead to layoffs. In addition to protecting consumers from price gouging and reducing corporatization of the private housing market, David wants to shift our state tax burden away from working families, freeing up disposable income and helping businesses thrive.
Economic Opportunities
Access to family-wage jobs is crucial to protect affordability. David supports apprenticeship programs to train a new generation of workers along with encouraging growth in our tech sector. Small businesses must be protected and encouraged.
Responsible Growth
The 39th District is a vibrant mix of urban and rural lifestyles. Farming is vital to our economy and David is committed to protecting family farms. Proposals such as the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Skagit County must address impacts to transportation and safety infrastructure, farmland, and the environment. Keeping communities safe, traffic flowing, and our agricultural industry strong is a priority.
Education
David is the father of a school-age child and understands the importance of supporting public education. At the same time, our schools routinely run short of funds despite a Washington Supreme Court ruling that named education as a top priority of the state Legislature. Parents and taxpayers deserve transparency in school funding along with a full investment from the state. Dependency on bonds and levies must be reduced, as communities cannot afford to keep approving local tax hikes despite the importance of education.
